Our fund raising round was not successful.  As a result, IDB will be going off line and into cold storage.  If our competitors should stumble, I may re-active the site in the future but for now, we're turning out the lights.

I had planned to go off-line on April 4th.  Due to some important and unplanned changes in our maintenance schedule, I am now bumping that up to next Tuesday morning, March 27th, 2018.  PM 'admin' if you need to reach me.

You should use the next 5 days to find a new home for your community.

Running IDB has been fun over the years and I hope you enjoyed your time here as well.  Sincerely,  Paul

P.S. News on IDB Funding -- this is now on it's own page to clean up the site a bit.

Server upgrade is planned for tonight or Wednesday night

The time has come for another server upgrade.

There will be 30-60 minutes of downtime after midnight as we make this move.

The way hardware continues to improve, we continue to be able do more with less.  So, we're jumping into a machine with a little less RAM than we currently have but with faster and more of everything else.  Faster network (the fastest in the industry), faster SSD drives that are also bigger (the top server-grade units), faster CPUs (by a lot).

As part of the move, we get a new OS and new everything else such as database server, mail server, and new caching tools.  We should see speed gains from the software as well as the hardware.

We will see what this gets us as far as giving you all a better experience.  We are switching back to a provider we used on v1 and v2 of IDB because they have the best network, SSD drives, CPUs and support currently.  We don't use support but it's nice to have in case you need it.

And, our monthly costs drop again!

Also, we had a hunk of software code deep inside IDB fail a few days ago.  This has caused post-by-email to fail.  It's also caused the stock prices on the top of some boards to not update.  And it's caused the guest counts on the top of all boards to not prune off the old visitors so the counts keep climbing.  The guest counts will reset once we migrate the site.
