This page will be a running list of things we improve over time.
October 25th, 2012: Calendar -- each board has a calendar that all users that can post to the board can add events to!
October 25th, 2012: Tagging -- tag a post with one re more terms and then you can see a menu of tags that have been used on posts for that board.
October 25th, 2012: Mark-as-Read -- mark all the posts on a board as having been read so you don't have to review them twice.
October 25th, 2012: New main page views -- posts on boards you subscribe to, then posts on boards you don't subscribe to then most rec'd posts this past week.
October 25th, 2012: Remarketing Emails -- you folks that have not posted in 14 days probably know about this already (!)
October 10th, 2012 -- we made minor improvements to our CSS and filters to improve the way text pasted from other websites appears on IDB.
September 3rd, 2012 -- we upgraded our servers to about 4x our prior capactiy. This took us about 90 minutes on Sunday morning. It should have taken about half that time but we actually had to migrate twice since our first migration target had a hardware configuration issue. We also changed the db type for one table to give ourselves a 10x speed improvement on one query used on certain pages.
August 28th, 2012 -- we added more editors so that iPad and iPhone users would have a better experience and so that all users had a spell checker and better copy/paste features. You can now select a default editor and you can switch between editors while editing a post! Be sure to use the 'paste from msword' feature in the editor if you are pasting from an MS Word document.
July 12th, 2012 -- added email notifications (a killer feature) and added view counts (per post) when looking at a list of posts in a message board. You can read about the email notifications here:
May 18th, 2012 -- added 'Recent Posts' to the main page and the pages you get to by clicking 'next' and 'previous' from the main page.
May 1st, 2012: we opened our stock picking contest to entries. This is a big effort on our part to build the stock picking portfolio contest infrastructure within the IDB site code. We pulled in stock price data and then built tools to completely administer a stock picking portfolio contest where users can trade in and out of stocks on a daily basis and calculate daily rankings of the contestants. It took us about a month to go from concept to completion and we're now up and running. We still have yet to find a bug in our code in anything we've done on IDB so we sincerely hope that trend follows here as we rolled out a pretty complex feature set for the contest and we did it in a relatively short turn timeframe.
April 30th, 2012: we added delayed stock price and volume on each board (delayed 15-30 minutes during market hours).
April 29th, 2012: we added about 4500 new boards! We're through our initial roll out and it's time to roll!! Included with each board is market cap and industry type. We'll add a view so you can browse boards by industry type in the next week.
April 27th, 2012: we announced our first stock portfolio contest. IPad to the winner! See more in the navigation links on the right side of the page.
March 27th, 2012: we added an ability to have a 'sig' (signature). Basically, you type some text into your signature in your user profile and then all your posts end up with the sig text being used. If you always sign your posts the same way, this is for you. Go to 'Board Preferences' in 'My Account' to see it.
March 25th, 2012: we added an ability to allow zip files to be attached to a post. You could already attach a long list of file types but we added zip files as well.
March 19th, 2012: we're 5 days into our public release now and it's been smooth sailing!! The only modification was to reduce the number of times "Re" apprears in a reply. We made this modification last 3/23/12 and it's playing out well.
Send us any feedback you have about features you'd like or changes you think would help. The more feedback we get, the better IDB will be for us all! Use the contact form at the bottom of every page if you'd like to get a message to us.
